Let’s do an experiment: how does pressure differ in gases and liquids?
- Take the syringe from the kit and pull the plunger all the way out to fill it with air.
- Cover the tip of the syringe with your finger.
- Try pushing the plunger and compress the air inside. What happens? Pay attention to how far you managed to push the plunger.
- Now, repeat steps 1 and 3, but this time fill the syringe with water instead of air. Were you able to push the plunger without spilling the water?
- Now, take two syringes—one filled with water and the other with air. Connect the tips of both syringes with a tube. Try pressing the plunger of one syringe, then the other. Did you notice that when pressing the syringe with air, the water doesn’t move immediately?
