For the experiment, you will need:

  • Color paper sheet
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

1. Prepare

Prepare all the tools necessary for the experiment.

2. Cut

Cut out a strip of paper 21 cm long and 2 cm wide.

3. Fold

Fold the cut strip into three equal parts.

4. Cut

Cut one end of the strip as shown.

5. Fold

Fold the other end of the strip into three parts, as depicted.

6. Fly the helicopter

Find a higher place from which you can let your folded helicopter fly and watch its landing.

How does it work?

When a paper helicopter falls, the air collides with its wings and forces them to rotate. The wings are bent in opposite directions, so the air resistance is uneven. This causes a moment of rotation, which allows the helicopter to rotate slowly and evenly.
